Rainbow: 38th Anniversary Party
I was thrilled to join the community members in celebrating Rainbow Restaurant’s 38th Anniversary this week. When we think of those iconic places that make Ward 10 our home, Rainbow is at the top of the list. Rainbow is also as local as it gets — owner and chef Tammy Wong is a resident of Ward 10. Thank you Tammy for investing in Ward 10 and serving as a local leader, breaking so many barriers for the rest of us, for nearly forty years!
Immigration Policies & Resources
I want to acknowledge that our immigrant community is experiecing a lot of stress and terror as a result of Donald Trump’s illegal and immoral immigration policies that are denying people the basic legal rights to due process. It’s important that all of us understand current city policies as they relate to immigrants, and to share resources and ways to support our neighbors and friends.
1. The city of Minneapolis and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department do not cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement, as that is exclusively the authority of the federal government. Minneapolis police officers are not allowed to ask about someone’s immigration status. Immigrants who are victims of crime and those who witness crimes can safely come forward for protection, justice, and to keep their communities safe.

2. Minneapolis Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs offers resources for our immigrant and refugee communities. They offer help connecting to services, provide educational resources, host a monthly free online forum, and have collected stories from city employees who are immigrants in order to help everyone understand how our diverse communities contribute to our city’s well-being and success.
3. Immigrant Legal Resource Center connects community members and the legal community through education and partnership.
4. Green Card Stories is a Minneapolis-based non-profit with national reach that connects immigrants and their communities through multimedia storytelling.
